Where the rainbow stores its colors!
The Lake
19 miles long and you can navigate
to four other lakes. A weeks worth
of boating at your door.
The Sandbar
If you build it they will come. Mother
nature made it and we really enjoy
it. Relax and experience a once in
a lifetime adventure.
The Lake
Fishing
Torch has a well deserved
reputation of being tough to fish.
We don't believe it because we
know the best places to go.
Sunsets
Life is not measured by the breaths
you take but by the moments that
take your breath away. Need we
say more?

1) Sandbar. Directly across from the house is the sandbar. If you have a boat, I suggest you take a ride over
and cruise around. It’s a fun place to play and swim. Even though you can swim right out in front of the house,
we occasionally go over for short stays. Both the sand and water are different then the rest of the lake
2) Boat trip. You will be staying at the south end of Torch near Torch River. By boat you can travel south on
the river to Round and then Elk Lake, all the way to Elk Rapids. If you enjoy boating this is a good trip. The last
time I went to Elk Rapids by boat it took approximately 1.5 hours so be prepared for anything.
3) Boat trip. The lake is 20 miles long and you are at the south end. Depending on the watercraft it can be a day
trip or a quick trip to the north end (1.5 hours one way by pontoon). Along the way I like to stay closer to shore
to house and people watch. Approximately ¾ of the way on the west side there is a marina so fuel will not be a
problem.
4) Boat trip and food. Approximately 1/3 of the way north, on the east side is Clam River (30 minutes by
pontoon). This river connects Clam Lake and then Lake Bellaire. It is possible to travel by boat, all the way to the
town of Bellaire ( 3.5 hours by pontoon). At the mouth of Clam River is a restaurant we like to visit called The
Dockside. This is a good place for both adults and children and it’s not too long of a boat ride.
5) Swimmers Itch. Depending on the summer heat, the water temperature and the ducks, we will experience
periods of swimmers itch. In most cases swimmers itch looks like small bug bites and they itch. There are several
things you can do to avoid it. First, sun screen is a good thing to use to help prevent the itch, it will coat the skin
and clog the pours. Second is to enter the water from the dock and swim away from shore. Third is to make sure
you towel off after swimming. If you get the itch then benadril really helps. We have not had any swimmers itch
at our house in the last three years.
6) Boats, jet skis and gas. At the mouth of Torch River are both a gas dock and a marina. Boat and Jet Ski
rentals are available at both locations and both are with-in walking distance. There is also a marina at Clam River
and it is about 20 minutes by car.
7) Ice Cream. Across the lake at a 45-degree angle north, is the town of Alden. We like to take the boat (there is
a small harbor) or drive by car after dinner, to get ice cream. The best place is in the center of town and is called
Higgins (the single scoop is huge!)
8) Fishing. The lake is loaded with fish; the challenge is to catch them. Directly out front of the house is a drop-
off noticeable by the change in watercolor. This drop goes from the front of the house to the north. In the evening
it will hold some very aggressive small mouth bass. The south end of Torch River where it empties into Round
Lake is loaded with submerged logs and stumps and is a great place for rock bass of varying sizes. When standing
on the end of the dock, about 30 degrees right, and close to that shore are two trenches (about 75 feet from shore
on the sand bar) that hold a variety of fish. I am not a patient fisherman so if I don’t get a fish in a short time I
move to another spot. Because the water is so clear you can travel the drop offs and look for logs or weeds and
chances are you will catch fish.
